Anton Haardt 2008

Anton Haardt of Montgomery, Alabama, is shown at left with her new book Mose T From A to Z: The Folk Art of Mose Tolliver which is a 2008 winner of the New York Book Festival in the category of Photography/Art. Haardt's book was also awarded the prestigious Nautilus Silver Award in the Nautilus Book Awards.

The Nautilus Book Awards is a national competition to recognize books that can change the world. The contest also recognizes the contribution of independent presses and self-published books in bringing new ideas to the marketplace, similar to the way that independent filmmakers have reshaped the film industry, according to Ellen Reid, the publisher and book marketing expert who originated the contest. The Nautilus award for Mose T From A to Z was in the category of Art Genre. The Nautilus Award is an ongoing national competition in 24 categories celebrating literary contributions to positive social change, spiritual growth, conscious living, wellness, and responsible leadership.

Award winning titles were exhibited in a 2008 Nautilus Book Awards Showcase at BookExpo America in the Los Angeles Convention Center from May 29 - June 1, 2008. One gold winner was named for each category, a special award was given to the top small press or self-published title, and two overall Grand Prize winners (one adult and one children's) were announced with the Nautilus Book Awards.

The Nautilus Book Awards are named for the mollusk whose beautiful, pearl-lined shell contains chambers of increasing size which the sea creature constructs for itself as it grows. The nautilus symbolizes both ancient wisdom and expanding horizons; both the elegance of nature and a continual growth of understanding and awareness.

The Nautilus Book Awards were conceived to recognize and reward these world-changing books, and celebrate how they contribute to positive social change, spiritual growth, conscious living, high-level wellness, and responsible leadership.

Nautilus Book Awards Winners and Finalist are carefully selected in a unique three-tier judging process by an experienced team of book reviewers, librarians, authors, editors, book store owners, and leaders in the publishing industry. Each year the Winners are showcased with their creative, inspirational, and life-changing books in The Nautilus Award's booth at BookExpo America.
